Private Labels have increased their footprints across the Supermarket product segments, but their impact has been particularly incremental in Food and Groceries. They have contributed to increased margins for the retailers and constitute between 18 % to 45 % of the total sales of a super market depending upon the geographical location.

No doubt, its an excellent option, but Private Labeling comes with a few challenges. One of them is managing a Packaging which is sturdy, aesthetically appealing and gives customized Branding options for Low Moq’s. Also, the label should have all the mandatory compliance details as per the format prescribed by FDA and customs authorities of the importers country.

At SourcEEZ we have a dedicated team to look specifically into these aspects . For your reference you may refer to the details about packaging options in this section.

Broadly there are 2 types of packaging: Flexible Packaging and Rigid Packaging.

Let’s start with the Flexible packaging which is most popular in the food segment.

FLEXIBLE PACKAGING

Flexible packing includes the following:

Stand Up Pouch – The most popular variant of the flexible packaging option, is further divided into:

1. Bottom gusset pouches - It is basically a sealed bottom pouch that is designed in a way that enables it to stand up right. The edge of the gusset is welded to the side of the wall for better strength & support. These pouches can further be classified as round bottom, k-corner & plow bottom. The doy variant is suited for comparatively lighter products whereas the K seal & plow bottom is suited for heavier products/ larger pack size.

2. Flat Bottom Pouches – Also known as box or quad seal pouches, the flat bottom pouches hold more weight. These pouches have gusset on right and left side and a gusset on bottom too.

3. Side Gusset Pouch - This variant is becoming increasingly popular and particularly for tea and coffee packing applications. These gusset pouches maximize the storage capacity since they square out after being filled. These types of pouches also offer large printing surface areas, an ideal case for manufacturers for a robust branding and enhancing the aesthetics.

4. Spout Pouches – Spout pouches are re-closable and produced with a weld spout and a cap either at the top centre or on the sides. They are particularly suited for packing liquids like beverages & sauces as they are virtually leakage proof & puncture-resistant.

POUCH MATERIAL

The pouches are made from a combination of material in order to protect the product from effects of moisture, oxidation, light, odour etc. For e.g., aluminium foil is used for applications where pouches require oxygen and moisture barrier properties, while polymer are referred in applications which require mechanical strength, gas, water vapour barrier etc. The combination is chosen depending upon the product which needs to be packed.

OPENING, SEALING & VISIBILITY FEATURES

Clear windows

Many manufacturers prefer that the contents of the product should be visible from the pouches. For them we have options of oval, rectangular, custom shaped windows or the option of choosing a completely transparent pouch material.

BRANDING & PRINTING

Packaging design is considered to be amongst the top 3 challenges faced by a brand manager. There are so many factors that need to be considered like fonts, colours, compatibility with the base material, preferences of the target audience, printing method that is to be used to execute the design, product photography, food styling, brand guidelines etc.

If not handled by a proper channel all this can be tedious, time consuming and a costly affair. With SourcEEZ as your partner, we take the onus of the entire packaging execution and ensure that it is a stress-free experience for the customer.

For pouch packing if the quantity per product per variant exceeds 15000-20000 units, we can go for 9 colour rotogravure printing.

For lower MOQs, using sticker is a feasible option. The quantity in such cases can be as low as 500 units per product per variant. Uses of sticker is a widespread practice in food packaging applications with low MOQs.

LABEL MANDATORIES

Factoring in all that is required to be displayed on a label is of utmost necessity for a product to be cleared through FDA and custom authorities. Nutritional information, storage information, allergy information, ingredient list, batch number, shelf life, pricing, contact details and all other details should be mentioned perfectly, accurately and in accordance with the prescribed guidelines laid by the FDA and custom authorities of the importing country.

At SourcEEZ, we ensure that every minute detail is looked into and there is no scope of error.

RIGID PACKAGING

In cases where the application requires, we can use mono cartons for packing. The printing method would be offset and cartons can be printed up to 6 colors followed by post printing processes like textures, lamination (matte/gloss) , spot UV, varnishes, drip-off, foiling, embossing etc.
